Joe Rogan is a ‘fickle’ boxing fan and Deontay Wilder will prove him wrong, It will be a ‘noble adventure’ to box on the same Misfits card as my wife Kate Abdo but her purse will need to be $20 million, Wilder v Klitschko ‘biggest heavyweight fight of all time’

Speaking to jeffbet.com former fighter Malik Scott slams Joe Rogan, opens up on his desire to fight alongside his wife, predicts Deontay Wilder will return in 2025 and compares Oleksandr Usyk to Floyd Mayweather

Joe Rogan said “I feel like there’s only so many times Deontay can get knocked out” – is he right?

Malik Scott: People want to see the best fights, but then when they see fighters box the best fighters out there, and the fighters lose, people say, “Oh, well, they need to retire” and write them off. That’s boxing fans for you. Boxing fans like that are very fickle.  I just know that in the fight business, especially in the heavyweight division, things happen. At the high level, it takes one shot. At the high level, some of the greatest fighters in the world have lost two or three times and came back and became heavyweight world champions. When you’re great, people are supposed to count you out. People are supposed to say those comments like Joe Rogan says. I totally get it. But if Deontay wants to become heavyweight champion of the world again, that’s something that I believe he definitely can do. I believe when he does become champion again, it’d be guys like Joe Rogan saying, “What a man he is, what a comeback.” And that’s what it really is all about. It’s about the doubters. It’s about people seeing no way out for you, or people seeing you as weak, and you showing them your strength. And you’re able to come back and motivate people and inspire people that were in your position before.

How’s married life treating you so far?

Malik Scott : It’s the most godly experience of my life, one of the best experiences of my life.
I really believe it was ordained. It was my first time being in real true love, and doing things the right way, and holding honor in my marriage. My wife is the most important thing to me. And as a young man coming up in the inner cities, and traveling, and meeting people from all walks of life, and going through my trials and tribulations in relationships—good relationships, bad relationships, things that were my fault, things that weren’t my fault—I finally met a woman that I knew for sure I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. And I’m very happy about that, man. This experience has been, the best phrase I could come up with for it, is just extremely godly. It’s extremely godly. I’m extremely blessed. I’m aware nothing is perfect, no one is perfect, but this is the closest thing to perfection that I’ve ever experienced in my life.

How do you handle the distance between you?

Malik Scott : The only difficult part of it is, I just always want to be around Kate, and she always wants to be around me. And we really love spending time with each other. So, obviously, you have to deal with the distance in that aspect. At times you miss each other in the flesh, in person. But it never gets so difficult to the point where it causes any type of havoc between me and my wife. And it’s just one of those things that when we do get time with each other, we’re just extremely grateful for it. And the time that we don’t, we’re on FaceTime, we’re supporting each other, and we’re always setting up travels so we can spend as much time with each other as possible. You could say the distance is a challenge that we are conquering in a major way, and we’ll always do that because it’s true love. Kate is my wife, but she’s also become my best friend,  even before we got married, even before I fell in love with her. She struck a light in my life that made me feel ‘oh, this is a bit different’.

There was some debate after her Netflix appearance about her accent being fake?

Malik Scott : We laugh about it all the time. But all people have to keep in mind is that they hear an accent of a woman that speaks, I believe, three or four different languages. They’re hearing the accent of a woman that is well-traveled. They’re hearing the accent of a woman that comes from so many different walks of life concerning her work and places when she was young that she traveled to, to learn different languages. So, if they’re hearing anything in her accent, they’re really just hearing something different than they’re used to hearing, because Kate’s accent is not in one box. She could get around Germans and talk German. She can get around Latino people and talk Spanish. When we’re in Paris, she speaks French to people.  So what people are laughing or teasing her about—are things that I praise her for. And that’s being different. That’s being able to speak different languages. That comes with speaking different languages.

What did you think about the ‘Brest’ segment on CBS?

Malik Scott : Oh yes, I’ve seen it. I think almost everything is funny on there. I think that panel is the best panel in sports. They never had a dry joke to me. I look forward to the show. I’m always laughing with it. What people seem to have a problem with, what people seem to tease her about, is always the things that I love the most. I love that, you know, the joke that they were having about the team Brest and how that went on as an ongoing joke. I didn’t mind it at all. I understand show business. I understand the show. I understand the panel, and I understand certain jokes sometimes. It’s good, and it brings a different light, and it brings more opinions to the platform, and that’s what matters most.

Will we ever see Kate in any kind of competitive capacity in a boxing ring?

Malik Scott : We always talk about it. We’re always training. The only thing we really struggle with is time management. And that’s just creating a space of time for preparation. That’s the key to the fight happening. She’s interested in it, it’s something that I’m interested in. Obviously, I was more interested in it with her before I fell in love with her. But when I fell in love with her, obviously I’m like, “Oh, man, my wife is getting punched in the face,” you know. That’s something else to deal with now. But coming from a competitive standpoint, I think it’s very, very good. It’s also a journey that we could take together. It’s just all about the time and time management– being able to do it. But I’ve been in contact with Mams from Misfits for quite some time about it. They’re very, very interested in it, as you all know, and in the future, we’ll see. We got 2025 coming up, so we’ll see what’s happening. Mams is highly interested in Kate boxing, for sure. But that should really be no secret. Kate Scott, she’s a big name, and she has her own big platform. It would only do nothing but make their platform bigger. In my opinion, she would be the biggest star to me that ever entered Misfits, she’s the best sports broadcaster in the history of this business. And it’d be something that would shed light on their platform, and it definitely would shed light on our bond, on our journey together. And us doing something like that together, will raise the numbers. It’ll definitely raise the stock. And that’s another thing—the price will have to be right because she’s taking a chance.

What number would you want for her and who is the right opponent

Malik Scott : 20 million dollars and I’m not familiar with any names. But I just know that will have to be the number. The number is 20 million dollars. It doesn’t matter the opponent, doesn’t matter the location or anything. You want to see my wife fight, you have to pay her top, top dollar.

Would you consider boxing on the same card as Kate?

Malik Scott : If there is a space for that, I would definitely be willing to take a noble adventure like that with my wife, shit yeah. I’m always interested in doing exhibitions. I did one when I was in Moscow a couple of years ago. I’m always interested in that kind of stuff. I’m always training. I’m always working on the craft. I’m always in shape. I’m not interested in breaking into the rankings or anything like that. But for entertainment and if there’s enough money going on with UFC legends or UFC fighters that want to come over. I’m always ready for a phone call.

How is Deontay Wilder?

Malik Scott : He’s healthy. He had a couple of surgeries done, and that’s another thing. 2025 is coming up now. It’s a new year coming up, and we’ll see what happens. It’s really tough when you have a fighter that’s well accomplished, with so many expectations of them in his own second half of his career. And everybody’s like, “When is he fighting? When is he fighting next?” Well, that’s up to him. But what I can say is 2025 is coming up. So, 2024 is gonna be left behind us. So, whatever happened in 2024, it’s gonna be left behind us. In 2025, we’re gonna see what we have coming up.

Will Deontay Wilder fight in 2025?

Malik Scott : Yeah, I definitely would not be shocked if something happened. If he wants to do it, 2025 to me will be the perfect year for him to come back.  My instinct is saying fighting is a part of Deontay’s heart. It’s just who he is. He’s a fighter, even when he’s not fighting in a ring. He’s just a fighter, so I believe that he will come back in 2025. But we’ll see. Everything has to be right for him to come back again. So we’ll see. If you ask me my feeling, my feeling is that 2025 is coming up, and I believe it’s going to be a big year for him.

Are there any current negotiations going on that you can reveal?

Malik Scott : Absolutely no negotiations are going on right now. For the last five years, it’s been certain names; the Joshuas, the Ngannous, anybody that’s considered high-level or high entertainment.

There’s rumors that Wladimir Klitschko was thinking of making a comeback. Is that a kind of name that excites you?

Wladimir Klitschko is a legend. There’s so much that comes with that brand of Wladimir Klitschko. So, that’s worth the while right there. I’m sure that would be a name to consider if that rumour he wants to return is true, that would be a name to put some attention on. If something like that were to happen, Deontay and Wladimir, it’d be one of the biggest heavyweight fights of all time. But I would be very shocked if Wladimir came back. I look at Vitali, Wladimir, and Lennox as the type of fighters, to me, when they’re done, they’re done. So, if he comes back, he won’t be a new face in the division. His presence still will be felt.

Lawrence Okolie and Dillian Whyte have both called out his name?

I’d prefer Deontay entertain the Wladimirs, the Joshuas, the Ngannous for entertainment purposes, things of that nature. I think if anything does happen with Ngannou, it’s going to be in a boxing ring not the cage. Ngannou and Deontay is pure entertainment. It’s entertainment at the high-level, and high-level paying entertainment, too. So, it will always make sense because they will make a lot of dollars, so it always makes sense. Ngannou really, really put his stock up with his fight against Fury, his introduction into boxing. He got blown out by AJ, but he went back into PFL, and he beat a very, very talented kid. So let’s see. If it’s not Ngannou, like him and Anthony Joshua, to me, it’s always a fight that’s gonna be big in boxing. It’s a shame these guys haven’t shared the ring with each other. They should have by now.

Are you and Jon Jones going to work together?

Malik Scott : I met Jon at a seminar, and I was scheduled to do some things with him, but our schedules and time management was a problem. It wasn’t able to materialize. But what I was really happy about was the job that he got done in his last fight against Stipe. He is a badass man, as far as all-around combat sports go. He’s one of the GOAT-status–he makes tough jobs look. He goes in there, he sticks to a game plan. He’s calm, cool, and collective, like a real killer.

Yes, I think if he fights Tom Aspinall he could benefit from my knowledge – or any fighter for that matter – but especially someone like Jon, who will be going against a big young heavyweight that has a nice striking system and who is from a boxing background. But at the same time, Jon has already has that killer instinct to him. He’s just very, very spooky as a fighter. He’s a real fighter. So, could he use my expertise? I’m sure he can. I think that you could give me any fighter in the world, and I think I could show them things that are beneficial for their style, and beneficial to help them with the opponent that they’re going against. So, yeah, we’ll see. You know, we may work together in the future. We may not. But either way, man, I’m always proud of him. I always want him to do good. He’s one of my favorite fighters of all time, and more important than anything, he’s an incredible human being. When you’re talking to him just in person, he’s very soft-spoken, very understanding, very level-headed. And it’s very hard not to root for him. He wants the best for himself. And from what I know of him, he wants the best for everybody around him.

Who should Jake Paul fight next?

I have a cruiserweight that’s been chasing Jake Paul down: Paul Bamba. Jake Paul is very familiar with him. I would like to see Jake Paul fight my guy Paul Bamba. Paul is in the top 10 in the WBA. He’s the WBA Intercontinental Champion. December 21st, he’s fighting for the WBA portion of the WBA world title. If I was Jake Paul, I would enter into boxing and leave the freak show stuff alone and fight someone real—like a real fighter that’s really ranked. When you look at Jake Paul’s record, he’s got older names on there, the Silvas that come from MMA, the Mike Tysons that are 60 years old. But I got a guy, Paul Bamba, who’s 15-2, 13 knockouts and he’s in the top 10 in the WBA. Come on down and fight Paul Bamba. He was supposed to fight Tommy Fury at one time. He’s been very, very busy this year. He’s on a knockout run. Come and fight Paul Bamba. See if you can really handle the level of a fighter that’s really ranked—a younger guy, somebody that wants to fight you, someone that is out to hurt you.

Paul Bamba is managed by former R&B artist, Ne-Yo. What benefit is working with Ne-Yo?

Ne-Yo has his whole legendary platform. He’s an extremely famous R&B artist. And I thought it was very cool how he took Paul under his wing because Paul actually trains him too. And if you see Ne-Yo’s body, Paul got him in incredible shape. So he took a hand in Paul’s career. And you know, they’re running to the sky with him, man. He’s backing Paul with whatever he needs. And I believe Ne-Yo coming into boxing has been a very good thing, especially him coming in with a guy that’s on a knockout streak. So it’s not like he came with a manager that’s lazy. He’s coming in with someone that has an entrepreneur brain, a hell of a work ethic, somebody that could really fight, someone that has one of the best trainers in the world, if I must say. It’s a good position for Ne-Yo, and it adds to Ne-Yo’s brand as well, having a WBA champion, someone that’s chasing champions down, someone that’s chasing Jake Paul down. You know, Paul, he trains three, four times a day. He’s an entrepreneur. He’s a businessman. And Ne-Yo taking him on was a beautiful thing. You know what I mean? So I think something like that is good for boxing, good for entertainment. And him and Ne-Yo, they make a good team, so it’s good.

Given Deontay Wilder’s charisma, do you think there’s an obvious later-in-career switch for Deontay there in terms of the WWE?

Malik Scott : For entertainment purposes, I’d back Deontay if he wanted to enter something like that, for entertainment purposes and for the right numbers on a cheque. I’m happy if he’s a part of whatever it is he wants to do, and if it’s beneficial for him and the well-being of his kids and his family, I’m all for it.

How significant is the arm injury?

Malik Scott : Significant enough that he had to get surgeries done. The injury was significant enough that he was able to get surgeries done when he was actually able to have the time to do it. So, you got to commend him because he’s been fighting so long with these things, so now, when time has allowed it, he was able to go get these things taken care of—not just really for boxing, but for life, period. He’s in a hell of a position where he’s able to just go get those types of things taken care of. He’s able to go get this issue with the shoulder handled. Deontay is blessed with the time after the last fight to get these injuries handled, and that’s what he did. He went on a recovery mission to get those things recovered. They recovered well and now here we are here..

Have you made up with Shane McGuigan?

Malik Scott : No we have not made up, we shook hands like two people that don’t like each other, strictly for the business of it and kept on going. You get out my face; I get out of yours. You say something disrespectful to me, I will crush your disrespect. You don’t say nothing about me at all, I’ll say good things about you. And that’s what it was. Shane never said anything good about me, but I was on camera talking good about him, and he just attacked me. I’m from North Philadelphia, I don’t shit from people like that, I don’t let people just talk shit about me, especially if you’re a heckler, and you’re just talking. Why was he giving me a run down of his resume? ‘I’ve trained this guy, I’ve trained that guy’. How long have you been a trainer? People just seem to but I’ve only been a trainer for three years. But Life has moved on, man. He’ll always just be just a pompous, arrogant type of person to me. That’s just what I think of him.

Do you think it’s going to benefit Fury coming in significantly heavier against Usyk?

Malik Scott : Fury’s weight It won’t matter. Usyk beats big men very well. They’re still talking about size, after all the big guys he beat? They’re still talking about coming in big? He’s beat Dubois. He’s beat AJ twice. He beat Fury once. He’s beat Joe Joyce before. Why are we still talking about size? When it comes to this guy, you need more than size to beat him. Skills pay bills, not size. Usyk is one of the best craftsmen to ever lace up a pair of gloves. We shouldn’t be talking about how big someone’s going to come in against him. How prepared are you skill-wise? How much are you drilling when you’re tired in the gym? If you can’t fight when you’re tired against him, bro, you’re dead. You’re just dead because he has an engine and the will.  Oleksandr Usyk believes training camp is to suffer. When he got ready for Joshua 2, he had 8 to 13 sparring guys, all big guys. There were times he was boxing seven guys in one day, and not three-minute rounds—four-minute rounds. And he’s fighting for more than himself. He actually fights bigger guys better than he fights smaller men. Hence why, to me, Michael Hunter was still his toughest fight.

Can Fury do anything differently?

Malik Scott : People always talk about how adaptable Floyd Mayweather is. The closest thing to Floyd, or probably on the same level as him, in adapting to any style, any size—it’s Oleksandr Usyk. And he’s fighting for more than himself. He’s an unselfish fighter. That makes him more dangerous. He’s fighting for his country. He stands by his country. He’s a family man. He’s a married man. He’s a man that honored his dead father.  You could see he’s a man of pride. He comes to tears when he’s talking about his father. This stuff makes him more and more dangerous. He told Fury he will not leave him alone and that’s exactly how his style is. He’s gonna be on you all day. If you don’t have Deontay Wilder-type of power that could just put him to sleep lights out, I don’t think it’s humanly possible to beat him. That’s why I used to say Deontay was the only one that could do it because he has one-punch knockout power. None of those other guys have really one-punch knockout power that could comatose you the way Deontay does. They’re big guys that punch hard. But Deontay’s power is special. I think if Wladimir Klitschko was in the heavyweight division now fighting Oleksandr Usyk, it would be a very, very good fight. Because he has this—he has this power. Lennox Lewis fighting Oleksandr Usyk, very, very good fight. But if you ain’t got that type of one-punch concussive power—Fury hit him on the button how many times? He didn’t go nowhere. So what’s going to happen differently now? It’s not—Usyk is about to win by stoppage. That’s what’s going to happen.
